1. What is the People of Determination Parking Permit?

The “People of Determination” parking permit is a special parking pass designed for individuals with disabilities. These parking spaces are typically wider and located near the entrances of public areas, shopping centres, and tourist attractions to ensure easy access for those with mobility challenges.

2. Am I Eligible for a Parking Permit as a Tourist?

Yes, tourists can apply for a temporary People of Determination parking permit while visiting Dubai. You do not need to be a UAE resident to take advantage of this service, but you will need to provide proof that you are eligible to use the designated parking spaces. The parking permit is issued free of charge.

3. Which documents do I need to prepare?

You will typically need to submit copies of your disability card or recent medical report, passport with entry stamp or vistor visa, a personal passport-sized photo and a proof of residence in Dubai during the stay. It’s advisable to have these documents translated into Arabic or English to ensure they are easily understood.

4. How to Apply for the Parking Permit

The RTA offer ws two ways to apply for the permit: online via their official website or in person at the Customer Happiness Centre in Umm Ramool or in Al Manarah. You can choose whichever method is more convenient for you during your stay.

  • Create an account on the RTA website.
  • If you haven’t previously done so, you’ll need to register an account on the RTA website.
  • From the top menu, choose ‘Driver and Car Owner.’
  • Select the ‘Parking’ tab from the ‘Our services’ menu.
  • Select ‘Parking permit for People of Determination’ from the drop-down menu. After that, you’ll be directed to a form that must be completed.
  • Choose the sort of permission you want to apply for from the dropdown menu: permanent, temporary, or tourist. The first two options are exclusively available to Dubai residents and citizens.
  • Fill in your full name, birth date and passport number.
  • Submit all required documents. Only.jpg,.jpeg, and.pdf files are accepted.
  • Choose your permit delivery method: courier service (by entering your residential address) or pick it up at the Umm Ramool or Al Manara Customer Happiness Centre.
  • You will receive an SMS or email once your application has been approved, informing you of the next actions you must do. The processing time can take up to 3 working days.

  • Submit the necessary documents along with the parking permit application request.
  • The permit will be provided immediately if you have submitted a valid parking permit from your country of residency or a Sanad card.
  • If you have a medical report to back up your request, the card will be granted in two to five working days, subject to the medical committee’s approval.

4. Using the Parking Permit

Once you have obtained your parking permit, you can park in spaces reserved for People of Determination across Dubai. These spaces are located close to building entrances, making it easier for you to access shopping malls, hotels, and attractions.

However, it is important to note that while these parking spaces are widely available in major tourist areas, they may not be as numerous in other parts of the city. Be sure to always look for the designated spaces and make sure your permit is visible in your vehicle.

In Þingvellir National Park if a guest has a disabled parking permit in their car, they do not need to pay. However, they must still come to the Visitor Centre to unregister their license plate from the camera system or send an email to reikningar@thingvellir.is or thingvellir@thingvellir.is.

Every time you visit one of the Checkit parking areas (Seal Beach, Seljalandsfoss or Hengifoss), send an email to checkit@checkit.is providing them with the registration plate number and the disabled parking permit. They have to mark the trips manually so the system doesn’t send out a fine to your car rental company.

Parking at Blue Lagoon, Gullfoss and Geysir is free.
